Camar Flava
To close things out for 2015, we teamed up with DJ talent Kevlove to bring you the "Best Of 2015" mix. The charismatic and magnetizing voice in the intro and outro of the mix is Kingston's talent, Camar "Flava" Doyles, straight from the island of Jamaica.
The recording artist, writer, and producer's first appearance singing was at his church. Throughout his life, Camar gained inspiration from R&B groups Boyz II Men and Jodeci. Later during his career he opened up for the likes of R&B sensations Jagged Edge and 112. Camar has graced various stages and made appearances in both Jamaica and the United States and was featured on TEMPO; an MTV Music Video Channel for the Caribbean.
“Born and raised in the capital city ‘Kingston’ I was exposed to a lot growing up in the inner city, a community called Franklin Town, Mckyntire Villa aka DungKirk but now I’m settled in ‘Portmore’ St. Catherine. Stories of my own experiences being exposed to many different struggles not just stories of inner city violence and hardships but also stories of triumphs, love, family, friendships, gains and loses all played a major roll in my creative development. Being in such environment fueled my passion for success, it was no longer about me, it was about getting my family out of the garrison. This pushed me to become more alert, focused and sharp and begun to show more dedication to my craft and work. What I’ve learned is that no matter where you come from, cultural background, race or language, music unites cultures and that’s why it’s my weapon of choice to tell my stories, it’s also my escape when the world begins to close in on me.”
This March, Camar will be at Paradise Lost music festival and gearing up for Carnival in Jamaica. He will also be releasing the video for his single "Sun Comes Out" ft. Teetimus and is looking to complete his first official album this year, which is a fusion of dancehall and modern R&B and hip-hop.
